I mentioned earlier in this week’s CSA post that I’ve been using organic rolled oats for my breakfast shakes.
My friend got me on to this recipe a few weeks ago but I’ve since tweaked it a little bit. I’ve added organic hemp protein in chocolate flavor because I use this to get me through early mornings where only have 10 minutes to prepare and eat breakfast then I end up having a late lunch (oh the joys of having a baby!) The favorite part of all this is knowing I have found a healthy way to eat chocolate for breakfast, hooray!
The cinnamon gives it the “Mexican” chocolate taste, but you are not a fan of cinnamon I assure you this will still taste great without it.
I take my rolled oats and blend them beforehand into a flour consistency.
Mexican Chocolate Breakfast Shake
(makes one serving)
- 1 cup vanilla Almond milk (coconut milk will work too)
- 1/2 cup organic rolled oats
- 1 tbsp organic cacao powder
- 2 tbsp organic hemp protein in chocolate flavor
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 of a frozen banana
- 1/2 cup of ice
Blend all the ingredients in a high speed blender and enjoy!
I think I can get behind the idea of drinking breakfast as a shake. I have been skipping breakfast lately, but gaining weight. I need to get back in a normal meal routine.
My husband is the same way, he usually skips breakfast unless I get up to make him one of these. I just love the taste and how quickly I can make it.
Thanks for the recipe 🙂
